Answer: The matting measures 12 inches x 36 inches to be used for lining the bottom of a sluice box. -

Will I need to put something under it or is it fine and do I need the expanded metal on top or will I be fine without?
Answer: Nothing underneath, expanded metal goes on top. When you take it off, the fines will stay in the sluice, so put a pan under the bottom, and carefully wash them into a pan. -

I got mine and this might seem silly but does the flatter side go up or down? Why won't this fill up with sand?
Answer: Flatter side down. It should only catch the heaviest sands. If you are not, you might have water going under the matting. -
Question:
Will a rack of riffles hold this down or is expanded metal a must? I don't think metal plus this will fit under my riffles and still clamp.
Answer: It should be all right without expanded metal, but I used expanded metal with riffles and it did clamp down tight. However, it should be ok without. -
Question:
How soft is this product and what is its thickness? I’m considering trying this under my saddle pad for ventilation for my horse's back.
Answer: The product is relatively soft, but we do not recommend it for horses. It was made for prospecting. Due to the material and how it grips surfaces, it could cause too much friction leading to issues. Better to use a breathable moisture wicking fabric that won't cause a friction issue. -
Question:
What company is the actual manufacturer of the matting? Is it vinyl? Or a different plastic?
Answer: It's a Chinese version of the real miner's moss. It is close enough to the real thing to work on small sluices. It's probably some type of vinyl, it's a soft material, whatever it is. -
Question:
Will it work in the bottom of a mini rocker sluice box?
Answer: Some customers cut it to fit even their custom sluices! -
Question:
Does water wash all the way through? Asking to see if it is a lightweight planter liner but need to be sure water will drain through and not pond.
Answer: Yes, it's like woven plastic. It drains water and traps gold in the plastic's twisted fibers. -
Question:
Does it catch fine gold as well?
Answer: Yes, it does very well. I have been using it since I bought it and it does catch fine and flour gold as long as your sluice box is set up right. -
Question:
What is the difference between colors?
Answer: The mats come in different colors and sizes. -
Question:
How do I get this to fit? It’s too thick and lifts the riffles so much that there’s a giant gap between the bottom and riffles.
Answer: Take a razor and trim the ends at a beveled angle or just let the sand or gravel build up and it will start working better.
