Your air duct opening should measure 12x6, so you purchase a 12x6. Vent cover dimensions are categorized by the neck and not by the face of the air vent cover.

It comes with black directional dampers that need to be removed if used as a return to avoid air restriction. The airflow can be directed or closed without removing the vent. Customer experiences with the product varied. Some thought it looked great and was of good quality, but others found that the plastic inside came off its track easily and was difficult to put back on, the system seemed loud and there were no options for adjusting the airflow.
